Video Competition ATS 2017.2
On October 18th, a video competition on sustainability was held at the Polytechnic School of the University of Pernambuco - POLI/UPE, as an extension activity for the Advanced Topics on Sustainability (ATS) course, part of the Master's Program in Civil Engineering and Energy at POLI/UPE.
The short videos were presented in English for professors and students, from the University of Pernambuco (UPE), University of Kansas (KU) and Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI). This event was create to increase the awareness on sustainable pratices among those involved.
The ATS students created up-to-4-minute videos to show a problem found in their communities for which the students feel able to suggest improvements and will elaborate, by the end of the semester, a scientific article with the results obtained from their research.
There were 5 groups competing for the Best Video Award:
Video 1: Indicators for integrated sustainable waste management in Arapiraca in the state of Alagoas (5th Place)

Video 2: Proposal of appropriate destination for shellfish residue in the Ilha de Deus community, Recife / PE (2nd Place)
Students: Ariane Cardoso, Juliana Mocock & Thayse Delmiro
Video 3: An overview about CEASA's everyday green waste (1st Place)
Students: Caio Munguba, Claudenize Galvão & Ricardo Leite
Video 4: Recife's Urban Mobility (3rd Place)
Students: Amanda Peixoto, José Vitor Macedo & Pedro Batista
Video 5: Greenhouse gases: the impact on Recife (4th place)
Students: Jéssica Alves, Manuela Cavalcanti & Maria Betânia
The competition was organized by students Ariane Cardoso, Juliana Mocock and Thayse Delmiro, under the guidance of Professors Dr. Emilia Kohlman Rabbani (coordinator) and Dr. Sergio Peres. Fifteen students and professors attended the event. Professor Dr. Gabriel Filippelli (IUPUI) and his PhD students participated via Skype. The videos were judged on content, audiovisual quality, creativity and organization.
